Toffee Nut Memorial

Toffee Nut Memorial

January 2004 to June 18, 2018

Toffee Nut was initially adopted by a horder who seldom fed him and never provided medical care. She named him Goliath. He was flea-infested and full of Demodex Mange when I "adopted him" from her. I renamed him Toffee Nut because the color of his fur reminded me of the candy bar.

I nursed his wounds, got medication to heal his sores, flea bathed him and fed him quality dog food. Within a few months he was perfectly gorgeous! At age 9, we moved to Arizona and he developed a spindle cell carcinoma on his toe. Three surgeries and two skin grafts later, he was back to the trooper he'd become.

One year later, he and I both contracted Valley Fever. While I only needed the medication for about 6 months, he had to take the medication for a full year before the disease receded.

Four years later, he was diagnosed with aggressive Mast Cell Cancer. He fought for 7 months. In those last 7 months, he amassed a Bucket List of 42 items!

He leaves me feathers constantly and continues to visit me in my dreams. He was the Best Boy.
