Stoopid

IN - 2023

It takes a kitten with the right attitude to go from surviving the hot cornfields of Indiana to winning the heart of a kind young man who happened upon her while on a walk. Little Stoopid was found with three other kittens and no mother in sight when John and his girlfriend at the time discovered the litter under the sweltering sun. They rescued the kittens, found homes for two and kept Stoopid and Kiki. Stoopid wasn’t originally her name, but John’s former girlfriend said, “Come here, Stoopid!” during feeding time and the name stuck.

While John and his girlfriend parted ways, Stoopid remained by John’s side until John’s mom kicked him out of the house at age 19 and sent Stoopid to the shelter. Fortunately, John rushed to recover Stoopid who, upon seeing John, demanded out of her cage, STAT.

John is 33 years old now, and ‘Stoop’ has been his partner in crime for more than a decade and is John’s “best friend.” But not along ago, John noticed a large mass on her leg and grew concerned as she wasn’t her spunky self. The vet said an amputation was needed to save her life. The cost--more than one thousand dollars.

“I didn’t have anywhere close to that, and I thought that it was all over,” said John. “It was the saddest I have ever felt in my life. Then the vet told me about Brown Dog Foundation and that they helped people with emergency vet bills. I thought it was a long shot, but I would do anything for Stoop. I submitted all the paperwork, and before I knew it, I was waiting for approval.”

Stoop is now happily hobbling around. “I think it took me longer to adjust than her,” he said. “I was worried because of her age that missing a leg would be too much for her, but after about five days, she started acting like her old self. Stoopid means the world to me and the BDF helped me keep my buddy around a little bit longer. I am eternally grateful.”
