POSSUM

TX - 2020

I was in a homeless shelter when I got to El Paso from Dallas. I fell from grace. Anyway, after 2 years of crying over losing my babies back in Dallas I couldn't take it anymore. I needed love in my life.

I saw Possum in the alley, a kitten of course. I chased him for about 1/2 an hour and finally caught him. He came to live with me at the shelter. They said no but, I pulled up "pets" under housing rules and got a doctor's note saying Possum was my emotional support animal so, I could keep him while in the shelter.

I've been making progress toward getting back on my feet. Possum and I are in our own apartment now. But, I could tell recently that he just wasn't himself. While pulling myself back up, it's been difficult to consider anything more than basic care for Possum. When my doctor told me that he had bad teeth causing infection that would cause organ failure, I knew I had to find a way to help him. Searching the internet, I found Brown Dog Foundation.

He would always curl himself around my arm is why I named him Possum. He's my baby. He saved my life and I saved his.
