Nubia

National, CA - 2014

I found Nubia when she was a 3 1/2 month old puppy here in San Diego County. As I drove her home, she was wide-eyed and scared, never taking her eyes off me, wondering who this strange person was. But soon enough, she started following me around from room to room, got used to being spoiled as only a cute little soul like her deserves, and growing into the lovable Diva that she is.

Two years ago, she developed congestive heart failure and was put on Vetmedin, Spironolactone, Furosemide, and Enalipril. She was given about 6 months to live. Being a tough little cookie, Nubia rallied and the prescribed medical cocktail has kept her alive and happy ever since. Her original dose was very conservative, and relatively affordable, but she recently developed a complication - Pulmonary Hypertension - and her dosages tripled. Her medicine now costs roughly $150 per month.

Two and-a-half years ago, I was forced to find new employment due to a serious health condition. It's been a struggle, and I haven't been able to care for Nubia like I used to. I finally ran out of resources, going into debt, spending all my savings to care for my precious baby and keep myself afloat. I was faced with the very real possibility of having to let Nubia die, because I just had no more money left to pay for her medicine. I’d been struggling to care for two dogs - my other precious baby, Nefi, recently died of a brain tumor this past May. It then occurred to me that, maybe, somewhere out there I might find Nubia some help. Luckily, I found Brown Dog Foundation.

Thank you, Brown Dog Foundation - and all the donors who've extended Nubia's life. We dog lovers understand how precious our pets are. I'm so grateful to have found you!
