Dax

TX - 2020

Dax was found at 7 weeks old with the rest of her litter dumped in a box on the side of the road. Thankfully the rescue I was fostering for at the time stepped in and saved the entire litter! We decided to foster her as the previous foster pup was adopted out to a loving home. Within a day of her being at our house we could tell she just knew she was at her "furever" home and our other pup Captain sure thought so too! After a week there was no way she was leaving us and she became our "foster fail".

At 4 months old Dax became very ill for the first time and this started her long journey of being in and out of vets and being hospitalized. We finally got a diagnosis in March 2020 of Salmonella with the hope that we could add an additional antibiotic for a couple of weeks and not have any more issues. Unfortunately in June she became ill again, this time being hospitalized for almost two straight weeks. After our amazing vets reaching out to specialists and internists we decided the best action to hopefully kill the salmonella once and for all was 12 weeks of multiple antibiotics at high dosages.

This seemed to be working and Dax was acting more like a puppy than she ever had and with acting like a puppy came with eating a piece of a toy and getting an upset stomach only one week after being off the 12 weeks of antibiotics. We quickly rushed her to our local vets office and got her started on anti nausea meds which seemed to be helping for a couple of days until she spiked an extremely high fever which is when we had to hospitalize her again and when we found Brown Dog Foundation.

With her previous vet bills and me being unemployed due to COVID (the company I was working for was forced to close) we did not have the funds available to pay for hospitalization and the care she needed. Brown Dog Foundation was very quick at replying to my application and was able to help us cover the medical bills so that Dax could get the treatment she needed! With the quick response of Brown Dog Foundation and the quick actions from our vets Dax bounced back quicker and only had to be hospitalized 4.5 days this time. I am happy to say she is back home and loving life!!! Dax turns a year old this month, September 2020, and we are hopeful that with how quick her recovery was this time we can get her healthy and keep her that way for a long time to come!!

Dax is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever owned and is very spoiled and loved! Dax and Captain are like children to me and we could not imagine our lives without the two of them!

Dax was a recipient of the VetBilling Repayment Plan. Her parents will pay for the treatment Dax required over time.
