Bradley

US Fund - 2012

I have always wanted a dog, but growing up my dad had bad asthma so it was even a subject. In 2003 I read about hypoallergenic dogs and did some research. I came across a website that breeded Yorkshire Terrier Poodles. I just had to have Bradley. He was so adorable with pitch black fur tipped with white on his chest and front paws. So Bradley took a flight from Texas to Connecticut. When he landed at Bradley International Airport he was scared and covered in his poo. We took him to the bathroom where we gave him his first bath and decided to name him after the airport. Bradley has been the best dog anyone could ever ask for. He was a very quick learner. He knows many commands, can dance, and can even say "I love you". Brad basically thinks he is human. Our family is made up of me, my husband, our son, and Bradley's first family (which included my parents, brother, sister, and grandmother).

I had my son back in March of 2011 and we purchased a house in November of 2011. When I returned to work from maternity leave they had changed their office policy so that I had to work five days a week and would have to commute farther. I decided this would not be a good fit for me and our family so I decided to go back to school for Nursing and resigned from my position. So as of November we have been "making it" on one income. Which is not too bad, until we got the bad news. Brad has been potty trained since we had him, so we realized something was wrong when he started urinating in the house and waking up at all hours of the night to go outside.

On January 13, 2012 we took him to the vet, where he had a blood glucose reading of 638. We were devastated. Our poor puppy would now have his whole world changed upside down. Now he must have a restricted diet, blood glucose testing, and an insulin injection twice a day. This would cost us over one hundred dollars a month to keep up with. I did not know what I was going to do. Thankfully Bradley's grandmother (my mom, who was layed off and now on unemployment assistance), was able to help us out with the testing and first prescriptions. Then I did some research and came across the Brown Dog Foundation. I am so glad that I took the time to do research because without the foundation and their donors we would not know where we would be. I fully appreciate Brown Dog's assistance and cannot wait until I can also be a donor to such a wonderful organization. I have included a couple pictures. They should be---my brother and Brad, my son and Brad, Brad and me, Bradley during Halloween, and my family.

I look forward to campaigning Bradley to raise money for the organization. Thank you again for all of your help!
