Sputnik

TN - 2022

Our entire family wants to say thank you for approving us to help with Sputnik!!!

She is 100% part of our family and always will be. We rescued her in December 2018 from the local shelter. She was a stray and had puppies not long before being picked up running the streets. There is a picture of her included with a Santa hat on that was taken by the Shelter and it shows she was thin and nervous and afraid. Since we met her we knew that she chose us and rescued us despite her being afraid and curled into a little ball in the shelter. We love her with all of our hearts!

Sputnik is a happy, healthy and well-mannered dog who loves car rides and meeting new people. She can be iffy with other dogs, she either loves them from the start or doesn’t, so we don’t do very much animal socialization with her. Her only health issue so far has been a constant struggle with skin allergies that will lead to infections of the skin, ears and paws if not treated continuously. We have tried many treatments but Apoquel seems to be the only thing that helps her. I also had to put her on home-cooked human grade food since every kibble we have tried also irritates her skin, even with medication. I have managed to pay for her medication and food needs until the price increased from $50 per month to $75-$100 per month. When that increase hit, I reached out to Brown Dog Foundation for help after seeing them referred by PetVetCorner on Facebook.

I am so grateful the Grant Manager assisted me through this process and through a couple bumps in the road in order to get us some assistance. I am currently looking for a part time position in addition to my full time position to get the budget back on track and the temporary relief from Brown Dog has been a blessing for sure!

Sputnik is a love bug but also a protector of the family. She enjoys snuggling up in blankets and pillows and has to be close to her humans anytime we are around (which is most of the time since I work from home). She has been there for all of us through happy times and heartbreaks and we are so blessed that she is part of what makes our family whole. She loves playing frisbee, going for walks in the nature park and riding shotgun in my old 97 Jeep Wrangler (especially in the summer). She's a mega chewer - the only ones she hasn’t demolished yet are kong extreme and the hard plastic jolly egg. 😝

I just want to say thank you for your assistance and this foundation is a blessing for those who find themselves in a temporary situation needing help for their fur family. Bless you all and happy holidays from Sputnik and our family!

P.S. she got her name from the shelter due to her large satellite ears since Sputnik was the first satellite successfully launched into space and we kept it because it was so fitting. She also gets called Butter, Sputter, Sput, Putt-Putt and Butter-Bean in addition to Sputnik.
