IL - 2015
Oliver joined our family in 2011. We had just suffered the unexpected loss of our first cavalier Bogart. Oliver was born on 1/1/11 and he helped us bring the puppy spirit back into our home. Oliver is such a sweet and loving dog. He has never met a stranger and loves everyone he meets.
In 2013 another four legged bundle of love would join our family and her name is Penny. Penny is another Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she is full of energy. The time we've had with these two have been great. 2015 was a difficult year for our family as I was injured in a car accident and my husband was injured at work which required him to have spinal fusion surgery. Midway through the year we had an unexpected loss of income which made a stressful situation even more difficult.
In December Penny and Oliver both started showing signs that they were sick. It took us a lot of vet visits, tests, and specialists before she was diagnosed with syringomyelia. We got her pain under control and she will be on medication for the rest of her life which will hopefully keep her comfortable. The bills we incurred with Penny were barely manageable and left us with a big dent in our remaining savings.
When Oliver started having difficulty breathing and sleeping most of the day we didn't know what we were going to do. Thankfully we received assistance from Brown Dog Foundation. Without their help I don't know what we would have done. Oliver ended up needing his nutrition adjusted. It was found that he had recently had a weight gain and that bothered an underlying issue with his breathing. Oliver was treated and through a switch in his food he is back to his happy self. We just need to stay on top of his weight and be mindful of conditions that may cause him to breath heavy. We are forever grateful to Brown Dog Foundation for helping our family.
