Who We Are
Brown Dog Foundation is a 501c3 (donation deductible and tax exempt) non-profit corporation founded with love in memory of Chocolate Chip. Chocolate Chip was the furry best friend of a woman who had lost her job just 60 days before Chip was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma. He lost his battle with the disease on Mother's Day, 2006 (read Chip's Story). We are committed to helping families work through difficult times by minimizing the trauma. We offer an alternative to unnecessary euthanasia of their family pets. On this website, you can:

At Brown Dog Foundation it is our mission to offer pet owners in temporary financial crisis an alternative to euthanasia when their pet faces a treatable life-threatening condition in order to restore the quality of life for pet and owner.

We Raise Money So You Will Have Peace of Mind
We know that every day there are thousands of families who bring a pet to their Vet with a treatable, but life-threatening condition, but due to some temporary financial crisis (job loss, major illness or accident in the family, natural disaster, etc), they opt for euthanasia because they can't afford the cost of the treatment. We want to give every family an option. That is why, everyday, we are out there raising money so if you find yourself in a financial crisis when your pet needs Veterinary Care - you don't have to think twice. Turn to Brown Dog Foundation for help.

Our Focus is Family Pets of Working Class and Middle-Income Americans
We believe in the special bond between domestic pets and their families. And we know that working class and middle class Americans have few, if any, resources to rely upon during times of unexpected financial crisis. In those difficult situations where you have to decide between your bank account and your pet's life, Brown Dog Foundation can help! Provided you are willing and able to pay a portion of the Veterinarian's cost to save your pet's life, Brown Dog Foundation will help pay the rest.

We also believe that all animals deserve a loving home, even when they have a pre-existing condition (cancer, kidney disease, liver disease, amputated limbs, diabetes, old age etc.). Therefore, when you can prove that you have adopted a pet with a pre-existing condition and you are temporarily in a hardship situation, you become eligible to apply for a grant from Brown Dog Foundation to subsidize the costs associated with preventative testing, diagnostics and prescription medicines related to that pre-existing condition.
